The bottom of my dress got absolutely filthy (the white silk satin was basically black), so my mom took it to the dry cleaner for me. I think it was really expensive to get it cleaned, and she had them preserve it/put it in a box because it was only a little more.
A couple years later, a woman I worked with told me this story about someone she knew who had paid to have her dress “preserved,” but when she took it out of the box later she found it had never even been cleaned. We freaked out and took mine out of the box, but luckily it had been cleaned and they did a pretty good job.
I’m not sure what I am going to do with it now, though! It is just sitting at my parents’ house.

I actually spilled red wine on my dress during my wedding (tail end, didn’t really matter) but I made sure not to mess with so I didn’t set the stain and when I took it to the cleaners a week later it was just like new! they can get anything out. BUT cleaning a wedding dress is NOT cheap, I think close to $200 bucks just for the cleaning, no preserving.
